The bringing-in and feeding of two big flocks of ewes and lambs in the evening, is a regular evening ritual, to keep the lambs safe from predators like Jackals and Lynx. -
Our trip to Italy, 2019. Part 2. Verona, Como & Imola.
Our memorable trip through Italy continues with the next 10 paintings. First Verona and then on to Como via Peschiera del Garda. Then we traveled down to stay with a penpal near Imola. After this we moved on to Tuscany.
This statue made by the Veronese sculptor, Mario Salazzari. is one of 4 beautiful statues on the ends of the famous bridge. ‘Il Ponte della Vittoria’, just outside our B&B, Lady Verona. In Verona Italy.

the exquisite “Giardino Giusti”, a classic Renaissance style garden, hidden behind a simple door in the wall of a street in Verona. This is the view as seen from the entrance. 
Giardino Giusti Gardens, Verona. A magnificent sea of green, so exquisite, so peaceful !! Have always wanted to visit a classic Renaissance garden, so I felt that it was just my personal piece of heaven… Then to complete the picture, a cute kitty appeared and all was right with the world. 
This Madonna wall shrine is called, “L’Immacolata capitello “. I may not be a Catholic but having been educated in a Catholic Convent in Rhodesia, these ‘shrines’ have a nostalgic quality. We saw so many throughout our trip around Italy, but this is by far the most beautiful. 
Peschiera del Garda. It is on the southern tip of Lago di Garda. We passed by here and stopped briefly for breakfast, on our way from Verona to Lecco, on Lago di Como. 
Swans at sunset, – Lecco. Lake Como. After we had arrived at Lecco and booked into our accommodation, we took an evening stroll along the promenade beside the lake with the swans. So beautiful !!

Lambert’s Bay holiday. 2017
In April 2017 John and I travelled across the karoo to the west coast of South Africa, to Lambert’s Bay. Over the years we have been to different parts of the East coast, but never the West coast. So it was wonderful to experience the wild wild sea of the west coast for the first time. It is such a different coastal town with extraordinary bird life and breathtaking sunsets every evening. Our only disappointment was the lack of fresh fish in the restaurants. Perhaps all those seabirds have eaten them all? These are the sketches that I did while we were there and later in the May challenge.

The EDM, mentioned in the last post, came to an end halfway through May due to this big commission. It took several weeks to complete, but it seems that the client was happy with the depiction of his shearing shed.

Every Day in May challenge, 2017.
For the last two years I have managed to take up the EDM, The Every Day in May Challenge. It has been quite enjoyable if rather time consuming, and difficult to fit in on busy days. However, this year, I had an important big commission to start, so only completed half of the daily painting challenge. So here are the 15 paintings, it ended with the very personal sketch of my husband, John and his Grand daughter, Chloë, who share a 15th May Birthday. In April we travelled to Lambert’s Bay so several of these are inspired by scenery on that trip. The paintings appear in order of the days, from the first picture of the ewe and lamb, painted on the 1st May up till the last one, the portrait of Grandpa and Grand-daughter, on the 15th May.
